According to the News and Tribune, Jason Leineweber of Charlestown has announced that he is running as a Democrat for the Ninth District, and will officially kick off his campaign at the Jeff Pride Festival this weekend.

There's another article that expands on his press release:

He might have some competition on the Donkey side. I haven't heard of anyone standing against carpetbagger  Tennessee Trey Hollingsworth on the GOP side.

I read the articles and checked his website out. Sounds like more of the same to me. . .blah blah blah, I'll represent you, blah blah blah. . .words are nice but actions are preferable. I suppose we shall see!

I fear that the district leans too far to the right to elect a Democrat, even with an incredibly unpopular President and a carpetbagging incumbent.

I read the "Issues" portion of his website and I think there's a couple of things in there that some of the more moderate or independent voters in the district might have questions about. Some of what he talks about--mandatory calorie counts, ensuring that half an establishment's menu is healthy choices, doing something about stores being open on holidays, etc.--a)is  irrelevant until more pressing issues, i.e. the economy, jobs, terrorism, infrastructure, etc. are taken care of, and b) sounds a little bit (or a lottle bit) like an expansion of the nanny state, although I will admit, I kind of like his thoughts on the bridge tolls--perhaps he ought to take that a step further and try to stop the state's efforts to toll interstates--and I do agree with him that the abortion conversation should shift more towards adoption. I'll do what I always do--check out the other candidates, when they get going, and hear what they have to say--but I'm not sold on this guy just yet.

Someone let him know affordable is spelled with 2 f's not 3 on his website. And there needs to be a space between after one of the sentences before he starts the next.

After reading over the website, it tells a lot about why he's running but not much about him. Other than baking, watching Golden Girls, going bankrupt at one point and liking cardinals there's not must substance... What is his experience? Personally and professionally? He started school but didn't finish which at the cost of higher education is understandable.  But did he do after that?

First impression: Not impressed... I like his willingness to serve etc. but seems to be playing the victim a little too much. I personally don't want to hear why you failed, I want to hear how you succeeded.

Just my opinion.

I find it's curious he's running for Congress right out of the gate. There's been a big political issue going on in Charlestown with Pleasant Ridge. Has he been active and engaged on that issue?

A lot has happened in Clark County in recent years, but I don't recall seeing his name the mix.

Perhaps he would be open to preventing it from happening somewhere else. Maybe we could talk him into coming on here. . .

I'm not sure you can interpret much through the Snapchat filters. . .

Can't wait to see what else is on the menu, candidately speaking.

Well. . .the other guy had a little more substance to his menu, maybe if/when this guy gets his campaign going and gets a website running, he'll have a little more on his menu as well. At least, on the surface, his positions were a little more relevant than mandatory calorie counts and whether stores are open on Christmas or not. I'm still not impressed but it's still early for this guy.
