Some folks may find this helpful...

Sheriff's Office - firearms training sessions

Participants should not bring a gun to the Clark County Sheriff's Office training sessions. They are free and open to the public:

January 20, 2016
Jeffersonville High School
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Enter through door 33

January 21, 2016
Silver Creek High School
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Enter through main entrance

January 25. 2016
Charlestown High School
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Enter through main entrance

"Shortly after some of the recent events that happened out west, we got flooded with firearm permit applications," said Clark County sheriff Jamey Noel.

Noel said the spike in permit applications hasn't slowed down.  So he's planned three training sessions in January to clear up the biggest questions he gets from gun owners.  A common issue is the Castle Doctrine or when it's okay to shoot, to protect yourself in your home.

I'm taking my bride to the Thursday session at Silver Creek High School. Would this qualify as a romantic evening out??? :D

I agree that this is a great idea. We're planning to go to the session next Thursday at Silver Creek also.

Seems to be a lot of discussion about this with various people that I've bumped into...

I'll be curious to see how many people show up...

1 hour ?

it is a class on firearms safety and laws.

It is not a firearms training course on using your weapon..

Previous post was not intended to disregard the class, just info.

Any class or knowledge is better than none !

I've attended one meeting like this by Sheriff Noel. It was a basic information meeting. Good stuff to know.

When they showed a promo they showed someone using a laser gun shooting at silhouettes. They also reported classes in late February and March then list them in January. Left hand to right hand:do you know what you are doing?
Perhaps they offer further instruction to those interested...sure hope so.

The news story on WLKY is about both Clarksville and Clark county.

The dates and time above are for Clark county

What about the actual shooting training?

According to the WLKY story, the Clarksville Police Dept. will be offering that type training but it will not be free. Here's a link to the original story for your reading and viewing pleasure: http://bit.ly/firearms_training

From the sheriff's fb page...

After much success hosting our first firearms safety and information class, we are looking forward to extending the class into Henryville, New Washington, Borden and possibly another class in Jeffersonville in the future. Below are the attendance totals for each of our previous classes.

1/20/16 at Jeffersonville High School 97 attended
1/21/16 at Silver Creek High School 202 attended
1/25/16 at Charlestown High School 210 attended

Sheriff Jamey Noel would like to thank you for making this program a success.
