Ms. Beilman, very good!
Keep up the great journalism at the N-T!

Mayor Moore has had to veto the excessive soccer spending TWO times during 2015

in an attempt to stop the questionable allocation of scarce tax dollars

for the soccer boondoggle.

The  actions of the city council acting as a Parks Authority have also been covered by the N-T.

The total spending by the council on the soccer complex, the yearly cost,

and the future spending and yearly costs may want to be evaluated

as well for an informational  journalistic update.

The lawsuit by the city in an attempt to have the council create

a Parks Commission correctly run by the Executive Branch is pending.

The N-T might want to revisit the  content of Mr. Merkley's filing and the council's tepid response.

I have to compliment both Ms. Beilman and Mr. Vanhoy of the N-T

for  their indepth coverage all year long of the soccer spending.

A chronological review of the N-T's articles in relation to the soccer spending is very interesting.

It might be nifty to see the N-T run articles about that "shifting"  and spending process during 2011-2015.

The public can see exactly how much has been spent on soccer to date,

what the planned spending is to be,

and how much all of this is

going to cost in total.

It would be very interesting journalism.

It seems that  Mayor Moore vetoed a $2,000,000 soccer appropriation

and then a second  $1,000,000 soccer appropriation.

The N-T covered it.

How much has been spent in total on the soccer fields ?

What will it cost annually to maintain the fields, buildings, etc., going forward?

What is the status for the plan for the $147,000 an acre for 11 acres for the land for a parking lot?

It might be wise

to stop yet additional more millions of spending on the soccer fields

and try utilizing the funds in another manner.

There is an "opportunity cost"

when that many millions  are spent on one location.

It is a very good facility already. Top shelf.

It is time to be reasonable and fair.

Is the soccer spending past and proposed approaching $5,000,000 ?

$6,000,000?

$7,000,000?

$8,000,000?

The N-T can research the totals.

The first district needs much more focus.

The spending for the soccer complex needs to take a breather.

Better facilities are needed in the first district right away.

Basketball, softball, and baseball.

The Nachand Fieldhouse

should see improved restrooms

long before a $1,000,000 dressing room is constructed at the soccer fields.

665 posts on the soccer scandal.

I just went back and read several of those.

The video about the usages

for the glitzy indoor soccer building

is very revealing.

Watch it again and see what is planned for the "indoor soccer" gig.
How much is that building going to add in additional millions?

:pirate:

There is revived talk that the $147,000 an acre
for 11 acres ( $1,617,000) is back on the table.

Don't forget that their is already  $1,000,000 for a dressing room!

The N-T has covered all of these spending ideas.

Should the soccer spending be tabled

and alternative uses for spending be examined by the new council?

Beware, there may be some crafty/slick   political maneuvers at work.

The N-T needs to get all of the total spending out on the table.

It is just sickening how people spend taxpayers money so frivolously. The Council is as bad as Greater Clark. When will this nonsense stop! They keep thinking all this will attract people to our area ---- however, it most likely just drive more people away!

I just wish they could at least tell the TRUTH.  Parks Authority president, Ed Zastawny said he wanted the board, which has five members leaving next year, to be able to vote on the project.   Ed Z said "we've walked this project along for the last four years.....my preference would be to go ahead and approve this."

NO Ed,  the truth is that you don't want to approve it after the 5 new council members take office because you don't want to risk the fact that some of them might consider the people who elected them and they might just show some fiscal constraint..      You just must spend, spend, spend before 12/31 because after that, you might just have to work a little harder to convince people that all this spending is really necessary.

First, the Council votes themselves an UNNECESSARY raise -- and then they push this through before December 31st.   Absolutely shameful.   Let's hope the new 5 members are far more fiscally responsible than the current council.    It is also WRONG, WRONG, WRONG that the Parks Board and the City Council are ONE AND THE SAME.   Nothing like approving your own wants.

Shouldn't  the new council decide this

even if the "Parks Authority" is going to last until the court case is decided?

A lame duck council should not vote to spend

this much extra $money$ on this soccer thing after the election

and just before the new council is sworn in tomorrow....Veto coming again?

If they are fiscally responsible, they will eliminate full time insurance for part time council. Taxpayers cost for family plan for city council is over $1200 per councilmen per month!

Is it just me or is anyone else bored to tears reading Savile Row and others repea

ting the same old stuff day after day about the Soccer Complex??????????????    It seems to be a done deal to this date.  I really think so many brain cells are wasted on dealings like this.

The folks elected these people or as least people who appoint or otherwise give the authority to do these things.   We live in Clark County, Indiana, (in case you haven't noticed!).  Politics have a way of being used to the advantage of whoever is "in"....not what is right or desirable.  Live with it !!

While we wait to see if and when the Gateway to Jeff will ever be built, the Rose Hill Project into whatever, Tenth Street(Ugh!) improved, etc..etc...etc....We at least will have a soccer complex for our youngsters and a fine

marina for whoever.   No new businesses of any size, no new nice restaurants, no sewer improvement as called for by the Government.......  I happen to like Jeff and think it has great potential........sometime within the next 25 years(or more).

There's got to be something else to discuss on here besides the complex.   The election is over, except the council seats, and Christmas is here.....Let's hear some good news about Jeff!!!!!!

There were no tornadoes in Jeff yesterday. Surely that's good news.

I don't hear gun shots at night in Vissing Park anymore - just people making love in the shelters. That's got to be good news for at least two people.

Good to be back. Our ministry is now working with the children of inmates, who have a 70% chance of following their parents into addiction and crime. Seeing some great things happen. In some cases. working with three generations of the same family, and watching positive change occur.

I'm the Volunteer Chaplain at Henryville Correctional Facility, too. Had to postpone the Christmas party when an inmate decided to escape last week. 146 guys are ticked off at #147. He was getting out in May - now he's looking at up to four more years.

Good news for taxpayers - we're saving an average of $100,000.00 for each inmate who becomes a law-abiding, gainfully-employed citizen. Considering what we invest in each one, that's a 4,000% return on investment.

I stay out of politics - it doesn't seem to matter what party they belong to, they just don't get it. Lord willing, I'll keep doing what I've been doing for more than twenty years - trying to facilitate the change of heart that leads to people getting free of drugs and out of the criminal justice system.

Merry Christmas, everyone. 2015 was the best year yet, but I can't wait to see what happens in 2016!

If it stays warm, maybe my wife and I will go for a walk in the park...
