I asked Michele what kind of stuff they need to get out of their freezer.

Patriotic and comforting in recognition of the date.

I'll bring a few apple pies (store- or bakery-provided), or buy the apples if someone wants to make a cobbler.

How many guests do you expect?

I didn't mean it as a joke.

I was going with the Americana theme - so burgers and fries are a part of that.

I just happened to remember the whole anger at the French part too.

Q, I still NEED subsidies!  Blondie and others want the edit button restored, too!

I think we're averaging 65-70 people.

Chicken and noodles totally sounds like comfort food! I may drop food off in the kitchen then come in the other door and get in line, lol.

Have burgers and fries or chips been done yet? I've been out of the loop some, so I'm not certain. If not, I think that would be a good idea, not just given the date, but also as a "summer's coming to an end" type deal. We could bake the burgers and fries there, or make the burgers ahead of time and warm them up there, and bake the fries--that's how we make fries at Katie's, they're just as good if not better. Or we could serve chips instead. I'd be more than happy to help with the burgers and fries. Keep in mind, that's IF we decide to go that route. I'm not gonna lie, chicken and noodles sounds just as good.

Thought: maybe we could do one this month, and the other next month. . .

I like the hamburger/fries/chips idea. Save the chicken and noodles for a colder month. Also, we need to see about getting heavier/sturdier plates to serve something like chicken and noodles. By the time some folks get to the dessert area their plates are sagging!

I am having a surgical procedure on the 8th, so most likely will send in my contribution with Chris but not attend. Yeah, I know, getting to be a habit, but not one I like.

If you decide on the hamburger idea, and Chris is game, I will go in with him to buy the hamburgers and pre-cook them. We can put them in my roaster oven thingie with a bit of water to steam them and keep them soft and hot. Perhaps someone else can provide buns and condiments?

Also, if anyone wants to donate bananas or apples, they always go over well too.
