The New Albany city council voted to send $25,000 to Haven House. Recent article here:

Despite sewer debt, New Albany City Council ok's shelter funding

Haven House has been in the news lately for not paying their sewer bill and an organization in Jeffersonville, Jeff Cares, raised money to pay what was reported to have been owed, somewhere around $11,000. But that did not count over $50,000 in monies owed that are on liens.

According to the article, the New Albany council specified that their funds be used for current operational expenses and not past due sewer debt. I wonder what that means. Will Haven House be accountable to report on exactly how those funds were spent?

What do New Albany residents think of this appropriation of funds?

It is in the interest of local (non-Jeff) communities to fund HH in Jeff, if not for the purpose of helping the homeless, then for the purely selfish purpose of keeping Jeff the place to go if you’re without a home. Either way, I think it’s money well spent.

It's easier for New Albany politically. Their constituents aren't as exposed to the lengthy HH/BA troubled saga as those in Jeff, and yes, they basically throw a few bucks Barb's way to have somewhere outside their own community to ship their homeless.
