Thinking of dumping my cable. Went to Meijer and bought an indoor RCA antenna and picked up 28 channels. Most are worthless for me but the local channels came in crisp, even moreso than the cable signal. So does anyone run an outdoor antenna that is more powerful and pick up any other channels of substance?

Was wondering the same thing or if anyone has experience with DirectTV? They have a great online special going on and am a little dubious about their $29.99 a month and no equipment rental fees and $1 installation. I fear it will end up like a cell phone upgrade-free phone, then you get the bill-WOW- and you have to pay an activation fee, submit a rebate form, etc

I actually have Direct TV and the prices are right. That only includes 1 digital box. Each box after the 1 box is 7 dollars.
When I signed up with them over 5 years ago, I had the same special, but I did have to send in a form for a rebate on my install fee, but it was fast response. It doesn't hurt to ask. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me. Once your contract is up, you can always renew and still get a great deal. When my promo ended, I ended up paying about 65 a month for one HD DVR and one standard DVR, but over 200 channels. A whole lot better than Insight and I've only lost the signal 2 times in the past 5 years.

Directv is the way to go; I've had it since 1994 and have never looked back. Just be sure the dish is mounted low enough so you can sweep snow away as if the snow accumulates it will interfere with the signal. Thunderstorms will also screw up the signals but generally don't last too long.

I've Had Dish, Insight, & have Direct TV. Direct TV is by far my favorite. Blows the other two out of the water. And the HD picture is much sharper than insight. We pay more than what you mentioned and I never have any intention of switching.

I have had Insight, Dish, Direct TV and now happily watching Free TV with my indoor antenna. I love the great reception I get - I watch a lot of PBS, THIS TV, ME TV and Antenna TV as well as all the local TV Channels. Since my TV is Free, I can now afford Netflix, as I am a movie buff. Sure, I got lots and lots of channels with Dish and Direct TV, but didn't watch a fraction of them, so couldn't see paying for them. Before you enter into a contract with either sattelite provider, ask lots of questions. Once you agree, you get locked in. Once that contract is up, your rates go up, as well. Some of those spectacular offers they are advertising are only available with certain contracts. In other words, you aren't going to get much if you only subscribe to their Basic cheaper packages. Good Luck.

Like Buckeye, we just do the free stations and Netflix for $7.99 a month. If you have kids, it really is all you need!
